Description

Popcorn Productions is proud to present ‘Into the Deep’, a tale of a fishing family held back by poverty and inter-generational struggle.

The play follows the story of Thomas Lewin and his small family, as he attempts to balance the dreams of his children with the realities of their difficult life in rural Cornwall. Told through non-linear time frames, we see the tensions between the challenges of the present and the destruction and pain of the past unfold. The play seeks to raise questions of familial toxic masculinity, and the ties and struggles of male mental health, still so rarely discussed. It is a play about how far loyalty extends in a cold, unempathetic microcosm of the patriarchal and working-class family.

Following a preview last year in The Room Above, Bristol, and a 5* review from Epigram, the piece has been developed and extended as it returns to the same venue, bolder and more exhilarating than before.
